LOVELAND, Ohio —
Almost two weeks after a pickup truck slammed into the patio of Paxton’s Grill in Loveland, the man police say is responsible appeared before a judge.
As that driver, Tobie Ramsey, works his way through the justice system, Paxton’s Grill is back in business and looking forward to summer months back on the patio.
Paxton’s Grill owner John Zielke is still in shock thinking about the car that crashed into his restaurant’s patio when it was full of customers on May 5.
“They had called me and said ‘the patio collapsed. I need you here now.’ That’s all I knew on my way down. Now, I didn’t know somebody drove through it,” Zielke said.
Only a few minor injuries to customers and staff were reported, but the patio was completely wiped out.
On Wednesday, the man behind the wheel of the pickup truck that night stood before a judge in Clermont County.
“The allegations are that many people were at risk of serious injury or death in this circumstance with Mr. Ramsey’s alleged conduct,” Judge Anita Bechmann said.
Ramsey is charged with leaving the scene, inducing panic and reckless operations. His attorney asked the court for a lower bond, saying he and his family can’t meet the price.
“The bond as modified is $75,000 cash or surety,” Bechmann said. “No drugs, no alcohol, submit to a tox screen. You are ordered to have absolutely no driving, and I am placing you on electronically monitored house arrest. You’re to leave only for work and to return to court. Do you understand that?”
“Yes, ma’am,” Ramsey replied.
A new court date has not yet been set for Ramsey.
Paxton’s Grill has been open for business and Wednesday was the first day they were able to open the patio back up after the crash.
