Burglars strike storage sheds at Tin Can Bay

September 12, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Police are appealing for public help after thieves targeted a series of storage sheds at Tin Can Bay, swiping a number of items.

Officers are investigating after items were stolen from at least one of the sheds, located at Schnapper Creek Rd, at the end of the week.

The sheds are located less than 100m from Tin Can Bay’s P-10 School.

Police said Tuesday one official complaint had been lodged about the break-in on Friday September 8, but thieves had attempted to gain entry to a number of the 12 storage sheds at the business.

It is understood the thieves targeted the property across three successive days, damaging the sheds in their efforts to gain entry.

Police were asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious near the sheds throughout the week to come forward.

Police said Tuesday one official complaint had been lodged about the break-in on Friday September 8, but thieves had attempted to gain entry to a number of the 12 storage sheds at the business.

Business across the region have been frequent targets for thieves in 2023.

In May business owners across the city centre banded together in an effort to try and combat the crime spree, which included the theft of more than $100,000 of items from Watsons Marine Centre and Toyworld being robbed of thousands of dollars of items including Lego.

Gympie’ Saddleworld’s fibreglass horse was cut off at the knees and left abandoned in bushland near the Mary River in June.
