Busted’s Matt Willis takes a dip in Plymouth Sound before Pavilions gig

September 3, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Busted bassist and childhood crush for most millennials, Matt Willis, enjoyed a dip in Plymouth Sound earlier today (September 2) ahead of his band’s gig at Plymouth Pavillions.

Matt filmed himself standing just off Plymouth Hoe as he excitedly got ready for his swim. He greeted his army of nearly half a million followers by saying: “Good morning, in Plymouth. Look, let’s get in the sea, yes!”

The 40-year-old was joined by the band’s manager Evie Baudains. Matt posted a photo of them together after their swim on Instagram. He captioned the story: “Post sea swim vibes!!! Ready for tonight Plymouth.”

Unfortunately, if you were hoping to catch Matt and his fellow band members Charlie Simpson and James Bourne in the flesh you’re a tad late. The boys are most likely mid-performance right now.

But if you’re unfamiliar with the 00s chart sensations then you’ll soon remember them if I remind you of “What I Go to School For”, “Year 3000” and of course that Thunderbirds theme (which I’m told was less popular).

The original members formed the band in 2000 and remained active until 2005 before making a return as “McBusted” in 2013- a combination of Busted and McFly if you hadn’t guessed.

In 2015, Busted split from McFly. The boys begin their 2023 tour tonight in the Ocean City.

Their next gig will see them travel to Cardiff tomorrow night before moving on to Swansea, Bournemouth, Brighton, Birmingham, London, Bridlington, Nottingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, London again, Manchester again, and finally Glasgow, again.
