September 6, 2023 – California Department of Water Resources officials give advice how to utilize fire smart landscaping to help keep your home safe.
Tips to make your yard fire smart and water wise:
- Replace oily plants (such as junipers) with fire-resistant and drought-tolerant plants.
- Create “islands” of vegetation separated by areas of hardscape such as pebble pathways.
- Use recycled water when possible to water plants, and water at night or early morning to reduce evaporation.
