MOORHEAD — Garden enthusiasts in Moorhead can apply for a city grant to help continue or create a community garden.
Qualified gardens must be open to the public and either be free or cost a minimal amount to join.
Four grants of $500 apiece are expected to be given out in 2023, according to the city.
Grant funds must be applied to garden costs. Those items could include seeds, raised beds, weed control, soil preparation or eliminating/reducing membership fees, the city said in a statement. Funds may not be spent on personnel costs, water bills and structures such as sheds.
The grant is available to any organizations or individuals who operate or plan to open a community garden on private land within city limits.
Interested applicants must apply by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8. The application is available on the city of Moorhead’s
webpage

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
