Cromer Pier Pavilion Bar reopens after refurbishment

March 3, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Date published: 3rd March 2023

The Cromer Pier Pavilion Bar has reopened after undergoing a significant refurbishment.

The refurbishment represents a £300,000 investment into the Grade 2 listed structure and key cultural icon in North Norfolk.

As part of the works, the front of house area saw a new bar, glass-washing area, beer cellar with new lines and lighting. Repair works to the flooring, repainting of the walls and supporting frames were also undertaken as well as utilising space with the introduction of a new ice-cream concession area.

Openwide, the Council’s partner and operator of the Pier, have also provided new furniture throughout the bar area with a new rustic theme.

Alongside cosmetic works to the bar, the Council has also remodelled the toilet provision and relocated the accessible toilet close to the ramped access into the auditorium, increasing the accessibility of the theatre for people with limited mobility.

These works were undertaken to strengthen the bar area and offer a relaxing place for the public to enjoy a selection of beverages and food, both while on the Pier or visiting the theatre.

This is a significant investment by the Council into one of its key assets, completed over an eight-week period while the Pavilion Bar was closed for the season.

Sean Garrett, General Manager, Openwide – Cromer Pier said:

“We have worked with NNDC for the past 18 months to help bring this project together and the results are amazing. We are absolutely delighted with the final outcome. The improvements to the bar and customer toilets will make the Pavilion Bar a fantastic place for our customers to take in the sea views or pre-show drinks. We are looking forward to a busy year, with concerts starting in the middle of March and our summer show starting at the beginning of July.”

Cllr. Tim Adams, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said:

“It’s really lovely to see the bar open again today with so many visitors already enjoying the improved facilities at the Pier. It has been a fantastic achievement to see this work completed in such a short time.

“The Pier is of course enjoyed by so many residents but also so many visitors from near and afar. The District Council is proud of the Pier and all that it contributes to the District.”

Sub-structure works continue to improve the integrity of the Pier, futureproofing the intricate system of metal supports and struts.

Cromer Pier, a Grade 2 listed structure, is over a hundred years old and set out against the North Sea, an extremely harsh environment for any building. Every five years, an advanced survey is undertaken as part of the significant and ongoing maintenance regime to ensure its future.
