Crotty raced to the scene to help save Columbus gazebo | Commentary

March 11, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Shane Crotty used to race around the football field and still races around dirt tracks. And he’s a car salesman. The other day he helped on a rescue. Shane saw that the Columbus gazebo was on fire and he raced in to put out the fire. He gets credit for a save.

The Dynes are getting a lot of softball as Missy and Sam are in Myrtle Bach watching their daughter Haylee play for Thiel College, then next week, daughter Sadye Dyne

plays for the Corry high school team.

Ethyn Allen’s wrestling career may now be over, but I see he’ll continue his football career at Baldwin-Wallace University.

Tyler Sekerak played basketball at Baldwin-Wallace from 2004-08 and holds the record for most games played. He, his wife Caitlin and two children live in Cincinnati. Tyler is in medical device sales.

Happy anniversary to Sarah and Jake Cirigliano.

When I went to the send-off of Corry’s state qualifying athletes on Wednesday, I crossed paths with WJET’s Lou Baxter who was presenting the Golden Apple Award. I saw something different — teacher/photographer Barb Beebe was there without her camera.

Chad Fenstermaker did a nice job printing shirts for the Tamarack Tavern pool team that is playing in the state 8-ball tourney which, I believe, is in Erie.

Speaking of Tamarack, it is one of the 11 hosts for today’s St. Paddy’s Prep Tour (or bar crawl). The others are the VFW, Columbus Inn, Corner Bar, Before the Barrel Distillery, Fork and Barrel, Library Bar & Grille, The Pub, the Elks Club, the Moose Lodge and American Legion. It starts at 2 p.m., and they are selling T-shirts that benefit the Corry Beaver Club. It all ends back at Tamarack with DJ Kidd Marrs playing music starting at 9 p.m.

Isaac Crowell, son of former Corry wrestling coach and teacher, became a three-time All-American for Southeastern University earning seventh place at the NAIA Tournament in Wichita, Kansas.

Birthday wishes today to Trisha Moats, tomorrow to Paula Faith Grimm and Monday to uncle Jim Eggleston and Candy Sliker.

Several Corry throwers participated in a spring javelin clinic last Saturday at PennWest Edinboro.
