WILMINGTON — Dave Matthews Band will take the downtown Wilmington stage for two nights this summer in conjunction with the release of a new album.
At 7:30 p.m. on May 30 and May 31, popular Charlottesville, Virginia-based DMB will perform at Live Oak Bank Pavilion. Tickets go on sale Feb. 17 to the general public.
Coinciding with the release of its summer tour, Dave Matthews Band will release on May 19 “Walk Around the Moon,” its 10th studio album and follow-up to 2018’s “Come Tomorrow.” Most of the album’s 12 original songs were recorded with producer Rob Evans, including first single “Madman’s Eyes.”
“Walk Around the Moon” came together during the pandemic and focuses on finding common ground in today’s climate.
After a trio of dates in Mexico, DMB will kick off its U.S. tour May 19 in The Woodlands, Texas. Other stops along the run include Forest Hills Stadium in New York; Charleston, S.C; Noblesville, IN; Chicago, IL; Gilford, NH; Saratoga Springs, NY; Camden, NJ; West Palm Beach, FL; and Irvine, CA.
The tour concludes on the band’s annual three-day Labor Day celebration at Gorge Ampitheatre in George, WA, Sept. 1-3.
The band’s debut at Live Oak Bank Pavilion does not coincide with its first arrival in Wilmington. Dave Matthews Band last performed in the Port City in April 1995 with Big Head Todd and the Monsters. The show took place at the fairgrounds at the Wilmington International Airport.
DMB, formed in 1991, has sold more than 25 million tickets since its inception, making the group the second-largest ticket seller in history. The band has sold more than 38 million CDs and DVDs, combined.
The American rock jam band is known for its live shows and for playing songs differently each performance; this practice has become a staple of its live shows since the early 1990s.
Dave Matthews Band won the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group for “So Much to Say.”
