“They decided to work together, but they need to have two different projects,” said Evan’s father, Jason Thomas. “So Nathaniel decided to build the picnic tables — he built at least six, one of them is handicapped accessible, and Evan decided to build the pavilion.”The project took over the course of a year, Jason Thomas said.
Once the two got permission from the Conemaugh Township school board to build the project, they raised a little more than $10,000 to get materials and permits through donations from many members of the community organizations and individuals, Jason Thomas said.

“It is a very complicated project with needing the plans, construction permits, engineering designs to make sure the project is built to the codes of construction,” he said. “It’s gone a long way over the course of the year.”They were putting on the last piece of the roof Monday. The team will paint the outside and place a plaque listing the sponsors for the project on it.
