WINDSOR — Emergency crews were actively working to stop a fire in a commercial building early Sunday night, where there were reports of multiple explosions.
Mayor Donald Trinks said a large, “very active” fire was engulfing the work area of a landscaping company in town located on West Street.
Both Trinks and fire officials reported that there were no injuries as a result of the fire.
Fire Chief Bill Lewis said the fire department was notified around 4:15 p.m. of a fire at 125 West St., in a barn housing the offices and equipment of a landscaping company.
Lewis said crews had the fire about “99%” out by 6:30 p.m., but some hotspots remained.
Lewis said no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported, but the fire presented some challenges.
“We have no water, this is a very, very, very long driveway,” Lewis said of the site. “We had to bring in tankers from surrounding towns to assist us in supplying water to our apparatus.”
Lewis said crews from the East Granby, Bloomfield Center, and Windsor Locks fire departments assisted on the scene, while Warehouse Point and South Windsor covered the town’s department during the fire.
Lewis said the cause of the fire is pending investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
