POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Garden Club [PPGC] is working to build a pollinator garden in the area of the renovated gazebo in front of Borough Hall. as part of the Monarch City USA initiative.
The Garden Club has a mission to contribute to their community in an environmentally-beneficial way. As part of such a mission, the club became one of the five designated Monarch City USA municipalities in New Jersey, allowing it to access more ideas and learning opportunities in order to help the dwindling monarch butterfly population.
One of the ideas is the creation of a pollinator garden. Conversation of this idea originated while the club worked with the mayor and council to install the initial Monarch City plaques in Community Park. The gazebo located in front of the borough hall was being redone, and the area surrounding it had not yet been designated for a purpose.
From there, and working with Mayor Robert A. Sabosik, Councilwoman Charlene Archer and Councilwoman Valerie Coulson, the club’s plan for a pollinator garden began to form.
