BUFFALO, N.Y. — With the holiday season over and the Christmas lights packed away, the cold winter blues are upon us.
However, you can escape winter with a seasonal-favorite event at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. Gardens After Dark: Enchanted Winter Escape is back.
Erin Grejak, chief operating officer for the gardens, says the display opens on Friday, January 20 and it’s a great way to get away from the winter weather and achieve Zen.
“My favorite part of this is that you come from cold, gray, rain, maybe snow, into a tropical paradise in the middle of Buffalo and you can’t get that anywhere else,” said Grejak. “So come down, get a little extra oxygen, get a little reset and a little Zen and the Botanical Gardens will do that for you every single time.”
There’s really just something about the smell of plants after not seeing many live ones this winter, I’ve been breathing in so deeply all morning trying to take it in pic.twitter.com/9LKzVmw6rY

It takes several weeks to set the display up. The team plans out each exhibit nearly a year in advance.
The event runs select nights from Jan. 20 – March 11.
