If you are a fan of any geeky media, the Sector-Con event at the Floral Pavilion is the place for you.
The organisers are striving to bring a wide variety of traders to the event, so whether you’re looking for anime earrings or horror artwork there will be a stall for you.
Sector-Con will be the biggest Empire Sector event yet with over 70 traders, cosplayers, a cosplay competition, and more to be announced.
Empire Sector is an independent geek business based in Liverpool which specialises in manga, comics and gaming.
A spokesperson for the event said, “At our previous events, we’ve ensured that our Bazaars are a relaxed and welcoming space for all. This one will be no different! Empire Sector events are a space for anyone to come and wear the geek badge with pride! Our events will always be an open and welcoming space for fans of horror, comics, manga, anime or cosplay.”
Sector-Con will be a chance to browse and shop from independent sellers who have a wide variety of products from Funko Pops to comic books. You can also meet and chat with local artists and writers.
Organiser, Phil has been a prominent member of the geek community for a number of years and often travels the northwest with his stall focusing on manga. As Phil suffers from serious dyslexia, he’s got a massive passion for helping other children get a passion for reading through manga, comics and other non-traditional ways such as audio books.
Last year though, he noticed that while there were a lot of comic events happening around the Northwest, very few seemed to cater for low-income families, younger people, or LGBT members of the geek community.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community Phil decided that if the safe space didn’t exist for people, he was going to make one. A few calls later, he was in a partnership with the Floral Pavillion and together they are putting on an inclusive Sector Con.
There will be stalls featuring a host of independent artists, a “book nook” for independent writers and authors, cosplay contests for a wide range of ages to ensure that younger fans aren’t overlooked by more experienced cosplayers and will be pushed as a safe haven for anyone to come and spend the day.
Due to the cost of living crisis, Phil wanted to put on an event for families in the run-up to Christmas, that wouldn’t cost the earth to attend. Families making memories together and getting to engage in local events are something that Phil holds really close to his heart.
Phil’s two previous events in Liverpool (one in Fact Cinema and the other in Bluecoats) have both been a roaring success with large donations being made to local charities. Something Phil will be doing at Sector Con with KIND being the chosen charity for this event.
This event is taking place at The Floral Pavilion in New Brighton. Doors open at 11am and entry is £4 for an advance ticket or £5 on the door. Children under the age of ten will enter for free (must be accompanied by an adult).
