VANDALS broke into a building compound at Charvil pavilion and scrawled graffiti on tools belonging to contractors.
The public access defibrillator cabinet also had graffiti written across it. A traffic cone was set on fire close to the building at East Park Farm, which damaged the paving and grass.
The vandals struck over the August bank holiday weekend.
Since then, a team from Charvil Parish Council has removed the graffiti from around the building, which is being refurbished. Contractor Concept 17 Projects is still on track to complete the work by the end of this month.
The builders have installed new showers, new flooring in the toilets and wallpapered the main hall and kitchen. A suspended ceiling in the sports end of the building has been completed and new energy-efficient lighting is being installed. New floor coverings for the showers, changing rooms and sports corridor are being laid.
Parish clerk Miranda Parker said: “There was graffiti in marker pen, not spray paint, so it all came off easily and there is no lasting damage. It was a bit of stupidity, probably on the Sunday evening.
“The fire was on the tarmac outside but it’s a bit too close for comfort. The builders will make good the damage to the tarmac. They’ve got to do some work on the drains round there anyway.”
In June, the old BT phone box in Park View Drive South and play equipment at St Patrick’s recreation ground were both vandalised.
Anyone who witnesses criminal damage or anti-social behaviour is urged to contact the police by calling 101 and Wokingham Borough Council.
