BATAVIA — York/Pavilion outlasted Notre Dame in a Class D rematch at Genesee Community College, with the Golden Knights staving off a fierce Irish rally late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 25-18 victory. It is the Golden Knights’ second win over Notre Dame this season.
York/Pavilion scored 19 of its points during a back and forth first half, when quarterback Parker Bonefede punched in a 2-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds remaining in the second quarter to increase his team’s lead to 19-12. Notre Dame scored on a 1-yard run from QB Jay Antinore with 19 seconds remaining in the third quarter, but the Irish extra-point attempt failed, keeping their deficit at 1 entering the fourth quarter.
Both teams committed turnovers during the second half, with an interception thrown by Antinore into the arms of Joe Bauer late in the fourth quarter helping soldify Y/P’s win, which maintains its position atop the Class D standings. The Knights added a touchdown pass from Bonefede to Jake Pangrazio with 28 seconds remaining to make it a 7-point win for Y/P.
The Golden Knights are now 5-1, while ND is 2-4.
