WILMINGTON — Two more bands have been announced to the 2023 season lineup at Live Oak Bank Pavilion.

On May 23, rock band Incubus, with hits from the ’90s such as “Drive,” will tour through Wilmington’s downtown venue among its 11 stops this summer. The show will feature special guests, Coheed and Cambria, who recently released the new album, “Vaxis II: A Window of the Waking Mind.”

The two groups are touring together for only a handful of shows, with Wilmington as the first stop, followed by Columbia, S.C., and Rogers, AR.

Incubus, formed in 1991 in Calabasas, California, incorporates a variety of genres into its music, including alternative, rock, heavy metal, pop and more. According to a Billboard article, guitarist Mike Einziger stated in 2017 that the band’s diversity is its “greatest asset and biggest flaw.”

“We don’t fit anywhere and we never have,” he stated. “We were never punk rock enough for the Warped Tour, we were never metal enough for Ozzfest, we were never quite indie rock or cool enough for Lollapalooza. We’ve carved our own path.”

Incubus has released eight studio albums and has sold more than 23 million albums worldwide. Current members of the five-piece band include Einziger, Brandon Boyd (lead vocals), Jose Pasillas (drums), Chris Kilmore (keyboards), and Ben Kenney (bass).

The group started a 501(c)3 nonprofit, The Make Yourself Foundation, in 2003, which provides humanitarian aid to individuals facing natural disasters.

Coheed and Cambria formed in 1995 out of Nyack, New York, and consists of Claudio Sanchez (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Travis Stever (guitar, vocals), Josh Eppard (drums, keyboard, baking vocals), and Zach Cooper (bass).

The progressive rock band’s 10 albums are concept-themed, based on a science fiction storyline called “The Amory Wars.” Six reached the Billboard Top 10.

Tickets for Wilmington’s May show go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
