Kingston Bagpuize scores brand new sports pavilion

March 17, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Sports clubs and residents in Kingston Bagpuize will soon be kicking goals and taking wickets by a brand new £657,000 pavilion which is opening this weekend.

Vale of White Horse District Council approved £596,757 of funding from developer contributions for Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor Parish Council to deliver the pavilion.

The funding was sourced from developer contributions under what’s known as S106 agreements which were collected by the district council from local development of new homes in the area.

The new facility features a function room, a catering kitchen with serving hatch, and changing and shower rooms for the sports groups using the building, including the Kingston Bagpuize Cricket Club and the Kingston Colts, as well as visiting teams.

The new pavilion will be unveiled this Saturday 18 March by Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Jane Cranston and is open to all, with tea, coffee and cake served from 11am and matches from the Kingston Colts Football Club held throughout the day.

Cllr Judy Roberts, Cabinet Member for Development and Infrastructure at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening the pavilion in time for summer and look forward to it being the new home of our local sporting clubs.

“The previous community building on the sports field was well-used but simply became too old and in need of repair, so we’re glad we can deliver this bigger, more modern facility for the community.”

Cllr Eric Batts, councillor for Kingston Bagpuize at Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “I am delighted to see our vision for the new pavilion come to fruition and look forward to it bringing more sporting opportunities to the village.”

Cllr Virginia Grant, Chairman of Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor Parish Council, said: “We’re grateful for the funding from Vale of White Horse District Council towards this new facility. I’m so pleased to be welcoming Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Jane Cranston to officially open the pavilion on Saturday and I look forward to it being well-used by our sports clubs and residents.”

Notes to editors
Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor Parish Council was awarded £596,757 of developer contribution funding from Vale of White Horse District Council. The remainder of the funds for the building have been met by the Parish Council.
