LANDSCAPES UNLIMITED BEGINS PHASE II PROJECT WORK AT CULLASAJA CLUB

September 19, 2023 by Staff Reporter

(LINCOLN, Neb.) – Golf course developer and construction company Landscapes Unlimited has begun Phase II of golf course renovations at the private Cullasaja Club in Highlands, N.C., equidistant from Asheville, N.C. and Greenville, S.C.

In collaboration with golf course architect Bill Bergin, Phase II has Landscapes Unlimited re-constructing 19 bunkers, three greens and 10 tees boxes.  The company refashioned several bunkers, and re-build three greens and 21 tee boxes, during Phase I.

The original Arnold Palmer-designed, mountainous championship golf course anchors the Cullasaja Club community.  It boasts golf corridors carved into the stunning natural landscape, dotted with 100-year-old specimen trees and streams that create universally enjoyable experiences for advanced players and beginners alike.  At 6,900 yards, undulating greens, white sand bunkers, hardwood-lined fairways and multiple tees to provide golfers with bark, benevolence and beauty.

A newly renovated clubhouse boasts vibrant social activities amid majestic Whiteside Mountain views, dining options and a 24-hour activity center with full wellness and fitness offerings.  Add to that four tennis courts, four croquet lawns and a 30-acre lake near the headwaters of the Cullasaja River which is seasonally stocked with trophy trout.

Casual, relaxed residential living at Cullasaja Club provides a well-earned escape and breathtaking distraction from hustle-and-bustle lives.  Luxury homes with 50-mile mountain views and private retreats on the water and golf course display the right amount of rustic look and a plethora of modern conveniences.  Barron’s named quaint Highlands, N.C. one of the top 20 places in the U.S. to own a second, getaway home, although many enjoy year-round living at Cullasaja Club.

“The renovation process went remarkably smoothly because we were all on the same page working toward a common goal,” says Tom Nelson, Golf Course Superintendent of Cullasaja Club.  “Every person on the Landscapes Unlimited crew took ownership producing new elements to a stout golf course that makes members proud.”

“With guidance from Bill Bergin and support from Tom Nelson, Landscapes Unlimited is making an already great golf course even better,” says Brian Vitek, Chief Operating Officer of Landscapes Unlimited.  “Experienced in the North Carolina mountains, our team inherently understands what’s required in this unique climate.  Overlay that with clear expectations from the golf course architect and golf course superintendent, and you have a recipe for great outcomes.”

The current project isn’t the first for Landscapes Unlimited at Cullasaja Club.

“It’s always an honor to do repeat work for a client,” says Vitek, “especially in this part of country where golf feels extra special.”
