Police seek suspect after verbal disagreement on St. Paul Street ends in violence, 60-year-old victim sent to hospital

Police are seeking a suspect after a verbal disagreement on a restaurant patio in St. Catharines turned violent.

On July 10 at 8:45 p.m., Niagara Regional Police and Niagara EMS responding to a 911 call arrived at a restaurant on St. Paul Street between James Street and Garden Park.

Police said they found a 60-year-old male victim suffering from serious injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital. He has since been released, according to police.

The initial investigation determined that the patio had been filled with patrons, police said in a news release.

“There was a minor verbal disagreement between the victim and a male suspect. The suspect stood up, and suddenly repeatedly punched the seated victim in the face, knocking him to the ground,” police said.

The suspect and a group of people he had been seated with walked from the patio east bound along St. Paul Street.

The suspect is described as:

  • White male, 35-40 years of age
  • Short with a slim build
  • Short blond hair with possibly a moustache

The suspect was wearing:

  • A large long sleave black t-shirt with a logo on the front
  • Blue jeans
  • White Adidas running shoes
