NICOMA PARK, Okla. —

A man was shot after an argument over landscaping in Nicoma Park.

Police said it started with an argument over tree removal and the victim took a shot to the chest before he was taken to the hospital.

“Apparently the neighbors had gotten into it about a tree that was in one of the neighbor’s yards. They made reference to cutting it down,” said Capt. Mike Haynes, Nicoma Park Police Department.

Police said an elderly man in his 60s is in the hospital after a shooting on Stewart Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

“He was conscious, he was breathing at the time he was transported to the hospital,” Haynes said.

Police didn’t have many details about the suspect or the victim but KOCO 5 was told both of them were born in 1956, meaning they’re both in their late sixties.

“Both were born in the same year, they’re actually a couple of months apart,” Haynes said.

KOCO 5 was told the shots came from close range and both men involved were neighbors.

“He’s got one gunshot to the hand that’s an entry and an exit, and he’s got one to the chest that came out his back,” Haynes said.

It all started with landscaping. Police said an attorney even got involved in the logistics of cutting down a large tree.

“The attorney basically got ahold of the victim and said hey, we need this tree cut down, so they made arrangements between the two parties,” Haynes said.

KOCO 5 was told the suspect was not home when the tree removal started and an argument outside escalated into gunfire.

“Current charges are assault with a deadly weapon, he fired two shots, and that’s all we know right now,” Haynes said.

Police do have the suspect in custody and at last check the victim is alive but their current status is unknown.
