MARYVILLE — Maryville set its estimated tax levy Wednesday, Nov. 15, and also annexed some property on West Main Street and raised park pavilion reservation fees for 2024.
Mayor Craig Short said Thursday that the trustees approved everything on the agenda. They approved the village’s estimated 2023 property valuation at $258.1 million. The estimated tax levy for 2023 is $2.7 million.
Short said the final agenda will be approved at the Dec. 6 trustee meeting. The final trustee meeting of the year will be Dec. 20.
Trustees passed an ordinance to annex and zone as single-family a parcel of 1.07 acres at 7302 West Main St. Short said the residents desired to become part of the village’s water service, which necessitated the annexation. The acreage is contiguous to the village and lies across West Main from the Cherry Farms Subdivision.
Short said trustees approved doubling park pavilion deposits and rental fees. The new fees are as follows: $80 for residents to apply for pavilions 1, 2, 6 and 7 in Drost Park; $160 for non-residents to rent the same pavilions.
The cleaning deposit is now $200. Open and pit burning is not allowed in any village park.
Pavilion 4 in Fireman’s Park is now $100 for residents to rent and $200 for non-residents. Pavilion 8 in Pleasant Ridge Park is also $100 for residents to rent and $200 for non-residents. Restrooms in the village’s parks are open from April 1 to Nov. 1.
Short said visitors have been using and leaving inappropriate materials at the pavilions — glitter, staples, silly string, pushpins, glue, screws, tape and nails — that have required extraordinary cleaning efforts. This has forced the village to double the cleaning deposit, which is now $200 and must be provided in a separate check or payment from the pavilion reservation.
Exceptions to the rental policy are as follows: Pavilion 2 is not available to rent between April 1 and July 31, during Khoury League Season; pavilion 5, along with the small pavilions in Drost Park by the playground areas and the small pavilion at Pleasant Ridge Park are not available for rent.
