Mt. Pleasant Borough Council is ready to move forward with its long-planned renovations to the Gazebo.
Council approved at its Feb. 21 meeting a motion to advertise the project once its received the completed bid package from Greensburg-based firm Ulery Architecture. Property committee chairperson Mike Barrick has been overseeing the project, reporting at the Jan. 3 meeting that the plans were “about 80% complete” and the project was on pace to be advertised soon.
In other property committee business, council accepted a proposal from Jim Kostyo for repairs to the furnace and boiler pump at Central Fire Station at a cost of $2,327, and also approved extension of a lease agreement with Robert Karfelt and Nicole Karfelt through Dec. 31. 2028.
Council also approved motions to:
• Authorize street department supervisor Jeff McGuinness to attend the 2023 Municipal Road Maintenance and Safety Symposium from April 23-25 at a total cost of $403.16 for registration and lodging.
• Close Smithfield Street from Church Street to Diamond Street from June 22-24 for the Fireman’s Fair.
• Close Route 31, Main Street, from 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23, for the annual Fireman’s Parade.
• Amend the motion approved on Feb. 6, correcting part-time police officer Jon Stevenson’s hourly rate from $20.50 to $20 once training is completed. The training rate was correct at $16.50 per hour.
• Hire Brice Joll as a part-time police officer at the part-time training rate of $16.50 per hour, to be increased to the part-time rate of $20 per hour pending physical and background checks.
• Approve the 2023-2025 agreement with Sable Kennels of McKeesport for animal control at a cost of $125 per month, an increase of $25 per month.
• Send councilman Ken Phillabaum to the 11th Annual PSAB Conference and Exhibition in Hershey from June 4-7 at a cost not to exceed $1,200, which includes registration, lodging, fuel and turnpike tolls.
• Permit council President Susan Ruszkowski to ratify the worker’s compensation renewal proposal with Higbee Insurance for the year March 1, 2023, to March 1, 2024, in the amount of $66,675. This is an increase from the previous year’s quote of $57,035.
Council meets 7 p.m. March 6.
