A new pavilion designed to give Oneida Nation of the Thames residents a safe and accessible space has opened at the Oneida Community Centre.
The pavilion was constructed this month using a $150,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. It provides residents with improved access to a safe space within the community park outside of the community centre.
“Our community gatherings are an important part of our culture and having this pavilion provides us with a safe space for all to use,” Chief Todd Cornelius said in a statement. “Providing programming that can use the pavilion is vital to the well-being of our families and we are very grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this funding.”
In addition to the pavilion, new picnic tables were added to the area.
