COLVA: As part of beautification and development of Colva beach, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) had installed six gazebos on the beach in 2019. Three years later, only two of the six gazebos are standing but are in a bad condition.
GTDC MD Brijesh Manerkar attributed the poor condition of the structures to weather vagaries. “During the last two monsoons, Goa was hit by various cyclones, including Nisarg and Tauktae, due to which the gazebos were damaged and had to be shifted from the beach to prevent any untoward incident. They are in the backyard of Colva residency.”
However, in reality, the skeletal framework of the gazebos are strewn in the children’s park.
Gazebos are free-standing, roofed shades made of steel and fibre-reinforced plastic. GTDC officials, at the time of installation in 2019, had said that the gazebos could withstand all weather conditions and were perfectly suited to Goan weather.
