This year’s theme for the International Day of Democracy, “Empowering the next generation,” focuses on young people’s essential role in protecting democracy and ensuring that their voices are included in the decisions that have a profound impact on their world.
This event is focused on the need for the values of democracy to accelerate the SDGs, particularly for climate action. The session highlights the role of youth in protecting and promoting civic space and recognizes their leadership in moving climate action forward.
With the aim of fostering innovative solutions and inclusive participation, the event will hear from climate activists, civil society, and UN representatives on their efforts to tackle the climate crisis and achieve justice through democratic means.
THE WORLD NEEDS A HALFTIME TALK
The UN Office for Partnerships is working with Project Everyone, a not-for-profit communications agency co-founded by SDG Advocate and the screenwriter Richard Curtis, in collaboration with artist Es Devlin, to create the SDG Pavilion, a unique convening space and art installation.
We will come together at the United Nations General Assembly from 15–22 September 2023 for the SDG Summit and a full week of Halftime Talks in the SDG Pavilion to accelerate action for people for planet.
The SDG Pavilion will host a series of Halftime Talks about mobilizing the world to keep the promise of the SDGs.
