The popular Street Patio is being relocated to the Top of Town after a successful trial period outside Oikos Café on Limestone Street, Ipswich Central.
Diners are in for a further treat with the Street Patio being set up outside Fourthchild Café and Restaurant at 215 Brisbane Street from Friday 1 September.
Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee Chairperson Councillor Marnie Doyle said the patio had proved to be a huge hit in Limestone Street since being set up there in April 2023.
“People loved popping into this unique, additional outdoor dining space to sit and refresh during their day,” Cr Doyle said.
“Data showed that about seven in 10 people enjoyed the Street Patio, while nine in 10 said they wanted to see more of them in Ipswich.
“We have had very positive feedback on the first location from Oikos owner Brett Briggs, along with respondents surveyed over the past few months.
“Council has been working with Fourthchild owner Ross Williams who was very supportive of the Street Patio moving to the new location in Brisbane Street.”
A street patio is a footpath extension that takes up one carpark space and creates a new space for people to sit and spend time.
The pilot is part of Ipswich City Council’s Creating Places for People program to revitalise Ipswich Central, complementing several other initiatives promoting walkability such as Green Walkable Streets that has showcased local artists’ designs on Energex boxes and Lighting up Ipswich Central that has beautified street trees with fairy lights that also improve safety.
