HarperCollins will publish Norteña by blogger and cookery teacher Karla Zazueta.
Lucy Smith, commissioning editor at Pavilion, acquired world all-language rights from the author directly. Norteña will be published on 25 April 2024 in hardback and e-book format.
“In Norteña, Karla Zazueta shares delicious and authentic recipes from each corner of northern states of Mexico – celebrating coastal seafood splendour, ranch traditions, sun-ripened produce and cherished family gatherings,” Pavilion said.
“Baja California-born Karla now lives in London, where she runs a sell-out series of intimate cooking classes. Her long-running blog and Instagram @mexicanfoodmemories are both hugely successful and Norteña is her first cookbook.”
The blurb reads: “Packed with flavour and to be cooked from, with love, let yourself be transported to the Baja peninsula, rolling flour tortillas in the sun, sipping on a refreshing michelada and cooled by the breeze coming in from the sea.”
Zazueta said: “Helping in the kitchen was always a household task for me and my siblings. I never thought that those kitchen skills, learned from my parents organically, would lead down this exciting and delicious path. It makes me proud to be able to write a cookbook about the food from the north of Mexico and share some family’s staple recipes with the world.”
Editor Ellen Simmons, who is working with Karla to deliver the book, said: “Passed down through generations, these recipes are a true taste of Mexican life using fresh produce, bursting with flavour, colour and – crucially – history. Karla is a generous storyteller that has a natural way with flavour; her passion for cooking and zest for life is infectious.”
