Unveiling of the designs for the Peter Oliver Pavilion Gallery

Martha Hartley (from left), historian for Old Salem Museum and Gardens, Walter Hood, designer and landscape architect for the project, Robin Paul and Karla Oliver Paul, both descendants of Peter Oliver, listen during an unveiling of the designs for the Peter Oliver Pavilion Gallery on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, at the Single Brothers’ House in Old Salem in Winston-Salem, N.C. The new urban park will be located at the end of Strollway bridge on the south side of Salem Parkway. The space will celebrate the life of Oliver, a slave and accomplished potter in Salem who purchased his own freedom in 1802.
