Virtual greenhouse gardening class on tap

March 8, 2023 by Staff Reporter

The WSU Master Gardeners are offering a Zoom class on “Greenhouse Gardening & Seed Starting”, on Thursday, March 9.

The class, which will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., will be taught by Master Gardener Kamori Cattadoris.

Greenhouses and cold frames are not essential “must-haves,” but they do extend the season length in both spring and fall. They also allow for overwintering and perennial plants that can’t otherwise be grown in the area’s colder climate. This talk includes basic information about choices of greenhouse designs and materials but focuses on getting the most out of your greenhouse or cold frame.

The class is a chance to learn many tips and tricks for raising your own vegetable starts, from seed selection, containers, watering and transplanting.  Discover techniques for overwintering hardy plants for earlier spring crops. The class fee is $5, ($3 for MGs), and can be paid by check, money order, or through PayPal.

Anyone with a computer or smartphone and Internet access will be able to attend this virtual Zoom class by calling or emailing Program Coordinator, Beverly Sarles, to register. Those that are registered will receive an email, a day before the class, with the Zoom link and instructions on how to access the presentation. The Zoom class will be interactive so participants will be able to make comments and ask questions. Even if participants do not have a camera and microphone on their computers, they can view the class and ask questions by typing them into a chat box.

In order to register for the class, so you can receive the Zoom link and know how to submit the class fee, please contact Beverly Sarles, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at 509-447-2401 or email anytime at: beverly.sarles@wsu.edu.
